Deacons: A Four Part Series on Organizing Church Ministry on CD
This four part teaching series explains the functions of deacons in the Church. In this series you will learn that the word “service” comes from the Greek word diakonos and that diakonos is translated as servant, minister and deacon in the Bible.
You will learn how deacons are called and chosen as well as how their ministry speaks of someone who executes the commands of another, like the directives given by a master and then executed by a servant, attendant or minister.
Within the Church, diakonos describes how deacons, by virtue of the office assigned to him by the church, care for the poor and usually have charge of and the distribution of the assets collected for the use of ministering to the poor.
Deacons are people who are motivated by grace and have a goal to serve and demonstrate the love and grace of God by meeting practical needs. Deacons believe that serving others means serving God. As Billy Graham once said, “The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service.”
